Joel Pitchon
Joel Pitchon, soloist, concertmaster, and associate professor of
violin and chamber music at Smith College, earned his BA and MA from
The Julliard School of Music under Oscar Shumsky and Joseph Fuchs. Pitchon has served as the
concertmaster for numerous orchestras; including the Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona (Spain), and
the New York Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist Pitchon has performed with
many groups such as the Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona, Philharmonia Virtuosi, and the
EOS Orchestra. The New York Times noted his playing in the EOS production of Stravinsky’s
L'Histoire du Soldat as “superb.” Recently he recorded a CD of four Sonatas for
violin and piano, with the composer Clifton J. Noble, Jr. Other recordings include New
England Legacy, works by Quincy Porter, Walter Piston, and Amy Beach with pianist Jonathan
Bass and Sun Threads, the chamber music of Augusta Read Thomas, made with the Walden Chamber
Players. Mr. Pitchon is currently a member of the Smith Chamber Music
Society and the Rose Colored Glasses Chamber Ensemble.
