Kivie Cahn-Lipman

Kivie Cahn-Lipman, a Lecturer in Music at Smith and Mount Holyoke Colleges, holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and Juilliard School, and is a Doctoral candidate at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He has performed solo or chamber music recitals in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully and Merkin Concert Halls, Symphony Space, Columbia University's Miller Theater, and on 96.3 WQXR's "Young Artist's Showcase" in New York and 98.7 WFMT's "Live from Studio One" in Chicago. Recordings include a concerto cycle by Huang Ruo on Naxos and upcoming CDs on Bridge, New Focus and Canteloupe Records. He is the founding cellist of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), and he has performed over 400 world premieres, working closely with such composers as George Crumb, Kaija Saariaho, and David Lang. He has taken part in numerous music festivals including Luzern (Switzerland), Spoleto (Italy), and Aspen. Kivie additionally performs on electric cello, baroque cello, piccolo cello, and viola da gamba.
