David Sanford

David SanfordBorn in Pittsburgh, PA in 1963, David Sanford’s compositions have been performed by the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra under Marin Alsop, the Berkeley Symphony under Kent Nagano, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project under Gil Rose, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Speculum Musicae, Dinosaur Annex, the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, the Meridian Arts Ensemble, the Chicago Symphony Chamber Players, cellist Matt Haimovitz, and jazz musicians George Garzone, Bob Mintzer, Josh Roseman and Hugh Ragin among many others. His honors include fellowships from the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Rome Prize, and he was the subject of a Composer Portrait concert at Miller Theatre. He is the Elizabeth T. Kennan Professor of Music at Mount Holyoke College and the director of the Pittsburgh Collective.
